This map was one of the first to show a large inlet stretching north above the Florida peninsula. Today we know that as Chesapeake Bay.
Notice how many of the names are unfamiliar, or appear with a strange spelling. Names are usually given by those who make the maps. As maps change, so do names.
The words in the title are Latin... a language used by mapmakers because most Europeans were familiar with it.
